About No Noisy Neighbors
Last updated
No Noisy Neighbors is a community forum about web hosting: shared hosting, VPS and cloud servers, dedicated servers, control panels, email deliverability, DNS, security, uptime, and the "noisy neighbour" problem, when other customers on the same server use up the CPU, disk or network your site needs.
Who runs it
The forum is run by OptiTide. OptiTide is a hosting company, so we want to be plain about the conflict of interest that creates:
- Everyone who works for OptiTide posts with an OptiTide staff label next to their name.
- Reviews and discussions of OptiTide are never boosted, ranked or moderated in its favour. They follow the same rules as posts about any other provider.
- Moderation decisions about OptiTide threads can be appealed like any other decision.
How it works
- Reading never needs an account. Every public thread can be read without signing in.
- Members can ask questions, share what they have learned, review providers they have used, and report outages.
- Hosting providers can get a free Verified provider badge by proving they control their domain. The badge shows their company name on their posts. It confirms who they are, not how good they are.
- Posts stay up as part of the record. Members edit or add to a post rather than delete it, and edits are kept as revisions.
The rules are in the community guidelines, and every change to them is listed in the rules changelog.
The software
The forum runs on software we wrote ourselves, in plain PHP with a MariaDB database. It sends no tracking or analytics data to anyone.
